Pole Shift Theory
In theory, a polar shift would cause the a shift of the magnetic fields in the Earth. This would cause the North pole to become the South Pole. The South pole would then become the North pole. The North and South poles have a connection with the Earth’s magnetic field and the the tectonic plates that run underneath of the Earth’s crust. If a polar shift were to take place, it would be devastating for mankind.
Possible Effects Of A Polar Shift
The effects of a polar shift would completely devastate the planet. While the idea of a polar shift may not sound too daunting, the aftermath would completely wipe out most of the human race. Since there is a connection between the tectonic plates and the Earth’s magnetic field, a polar shift would cause the land to peel off of the Earth, sort of like an orange. Massive volcanoes like no human has ever seen before will rise up where the tectonic plates meet. The tectonic plates would be causing havoc all over the Earth. Unprecedented volcanic eruptions can be expected.
There are at least six possible super volcanoes that scientists are well aware of today. These super volcanoes are spread about the world located in Yellow Stone National Park in the United States, New Zealand, and Japan. The eruption of super volcano would produce a massive shock wave that would wipe out life within a close radius. The disruption that will take place in the Earth’s crust if a polar shift occurred could cause these super volcanoes to erupt. New super volcanoes could also be formed as the Earth’s crust and tectonic plates are disturbed from a polar shift.
Of course with the disturbance in the tectonic plates, earthquakes that are off of the Richter scale will also occur. The tectonic plates that are located in the middle of the ocean would cause massive sized tsunamis that would wipe out life on the shore. Those are a just a few of the physical changes that will occur to the face of the Earth. Another popular theory is that the Earth’s magnetic field would no longer exist if a polar shift occurred. The Earth would then be exposed to harmful radiation and solar storms if our magnetic field were gone. Continents could be relocated as well.

One of the first things in our modern society that would disappear if a polar shift were to occur would be satellites and communications. Our power grids would be completely blown. And if the mass chaos that is expected actually occurs, people as a whole will have no means of communication with the rest of the world.
Life is we know will completely change following a polar shift. In fact, the climate as we know it would completely change. Areas that once experienced some of the hottest weather in the world could possibly become winter wastelands. Areas that once experienced extremely cold winters could be the next tropical regions. A change in weather may not sound daunting either, but the polar ice caps would melt due to the change in climate. The effects of the polar ice caps melting could be catastrophic for many areas. Massive world wide flooding would occur. Complete countries and continents could become large bodies of water and what once were large cities would become underwater ghost towns.
History And Information Regarding The Pole Shift Theory
French mathematician Joseph Adhemar was the first to discover the possible effects of a polar shift. He believed and feared that a polar shift would not only cause the polar ice caps to melt, causing massive flooding, that chunks of the ice would fall off into the sea. Joseph Adhemar feared that if this were to occur, the Earth’s center would be relocated. He also believed that large tsunamis would occur due to the Earth’s center being relocated.
Has A Polar Shift Happened Before?
There are scientists who state that a polar shift has happened to the Earth before. Scientists in the 1870′s believed that the rising of new continents could have been the cause of a polar shift that is said to have happened seven hundred eighty thousand years ago. These scientists believe that the last polar shift was the cause of the Ice Age. There has been some research that has shown that a polar shift happens every five thousand years or so and that the Earth is long overdue for a polar shift. These scientist believe that a polar shift is a long drawn out process that would not effect our way of life in the least bit.
Some scientists even go as far to say that a polar shift was the cause of the disappearance of many ancient civilizations. These scientists state that when the rise of new continents began, lost civilizations like Atlantis were submerged underneath of the water. They state that the civilization of Atlantis was lost at the beginning of the last ice age due to a polar shift.
Possible Causes Of A Polar Shift
Some of the possible causes of the polar shift theory tie in with other theories. One of the major theories that are linked to the polar shift theory is the Planet X theory. Planet X is said to be an extremely large planet that is making it’s way towards Earth. Planet X is supposed to hit the Earth, which would cause the polar shift.
The galactic alignment theory also ties in with the polar shift theory. In fact, the galactic alignment theory is the mother of all theories concerning 2012. Most all theories that pertain to the end of the world are some how connected or intertwined with the galactic alignment theory. Some scientists believe that the galactic alignment that is said to happen in December of 2012 will cause the Earth to wobble completely off of it’s axis. The Earth’s axis is constantly in motion. It is entirely possible for the Earth to wobble off of it’s axis, but most scientists believe it would take a large object, like an asteroid or Planet X even, to cause the Earth to do so. There are many theories as to what galactic alignment will cause, but they all lead back to the up and coming galactic alignment being the root of the problem.
Other possible causes of a polar shift could include a decrease in the terrestrial magnetic field that surrounds the Earth. Some believe that there will be a massive weakening in the magnetic field around Earth. This weakening is said to cause the Earth to become off balance. This imbalance would cause a polar shift to happen to the planet. A lot of scientists believe that changes in Earth’s magnetic field could lead to a polar shift if the change was drastic enough. A strong solar storm is also said to be one of the possible causes of a polar shift.
There is not a lot of rock solid information about what exactly could cause a polar shift on our planet. One reason there is not a lot of information or research is that if a polar shift ever has occurred on this planet, our race was not present at the time. There is not a lot of information supporting many of the polar shift theories either, but that does not deter true believers.
Further Research
Other research finds that polar shifts have taken place during unusual time periods in history. These scientists believe that polar shifts happen every three hundred thousand years. They also go on to state that a polar shift that happens instantly is the direct results of a bubbling molten lava that is moving at the Earth’s core. This high level of activity and movement can cause instability in the Earth’s magnetic field. Scientists go on to state that these magnetic disruptions can be a sign of the up and coming polar shift that is said to happen in 2012.
Siberian mammoths were found completely submerged deep within the ice in what used to be a tropical climate. Other mammoths were found with food still in their mouths, as if they were frozen instantly while they were still eating. Researchers state that an instantaneous polar shift would be the number one cause of such an anomaly.
Paranoia Fear Or Fact?
In 1948, the polar shift theory was brought up again. Researchers were alarmed by the amount of ice that growing extremely large on the Antarctic ice cap. Researchers feared that the ice cap would grow so large that it would completely tip the planet over. These same researchers state that if that were to happen, New York City would soon be located thirteen miles underneath of the ocean. Many scientists still support this theory, regardless of how many scientists chock this information up to paranoid fear instead of actual science. After the world wide earthquakes that took place back in 2008 and 2009, many more believers jumped on this doomsday wagon.

One of the first things in our modern society that would disappear if a polar shift were to occur would be satellites and communications. Our power grids would be completely blown. And if the mass chaos that is expected actually occurs, people as a whole will have no means of communication with the rest of the world.
